BonaVista Pools wins coveted awards at the Landscape of Ontario Awards of Excellence

— Winners are: Project Doggie Tales and The Reflection Pool —

Toronto, (Ontario), January 11, 2018 BonaVista Pools www.bonavistapools.com wins the coveted awards for their work on; Doggie Tales and Reflection Pool, at the Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence, in the Landscape Construction category for top water feature. Both projects featured unique challenge, clients and a stunning end results!

Award #1 — Project Doggie Tales

Designer’s Name: Mark Pettes, MDP Landscape Consultants

BonaVista Pools had the unique challenge of building a retreat for dogs. Project Doggie Tales includes a water feature for “The Doggie Tales Dog Rescue and Sanctuary” in King City. The non-traditional clientele; rescued dogs, had their unique challenges to create a water feature that was both welcoming to dogs and in keeping with the natural feel of the surrounding landscape. The pool surface is a colored concrete with beach pebbles in a brown/beige to match the natural surroundings. The beach pebbles and rocks were placed by hand while the concrete was being installed to provide a stream bed look in the pond. Unlike traditional pools this water is treated using an oxymatic system which creates the Hydroxyl ion to disinfect the pool water. This allows the dogs to splash in chlorine free, sanitized water. Watching the rescued dogs play, socialize, cool off, and simply enjoy this project is one of the most rewarding experiences which was complete in just three short weeks.

BonaVista Pools worked very closely with the property owner, the landscape designer, and the landscaper. Positioning on the property and water feature activity levels for the dogs was key in order to bring this water feature to life.

Award #2 — Reflection Pool

Designer’s Name: Vikas Tanwar, Paul Sangha Landscape Architecture

The Reflection Pool (aka a pool with undisturbed water which produces the reflective surface) measures 14 feet by 46 feet. This custom concrete pool has a rectangular full perimeter overflow, a full-length swim up bench, tiled overflow wall and tiled wrap around steps. The pool sits on a beautiful protected ravine making permitting a challenge. The pool was specifically designed to accommodate certain stone sizing and landscape features surrounding the pool. The pool <insert location> was constructed in January/February which made tenting and heating measures necessary due to the cold weather. It is the behind the scenes that makes this pool phenomenal: there is a subterranean overflow tank that enables the full perimeter overflow effect. BonaVista Pools managed to conceal this underneath the outdoor seating area.

BonaVista Pools is honoured to win these coveted awards together with our clients and trades people. “It is our clients that make the dreams come to life!  There is always a new challenge or unique request which we work hard to bring to life”, says Melissa Brown, P. Eng., President BonaVista Pools.
